A BIM-based approach to improving the quality of facility operation
A BIM-based approach to improving the quality of facility operation 💡
By extracting accurate architectural, structural and MEP data directly from the 3D BIM model, engineers can simulate energy performance long before a building is commissioned — and then continue refining assumptions once it is in use. This creates a continuous feedback loop between design intentions and real operational behaviour.
For operators, the benefits are immediate:
• clearer understanding of energy consumption patterns
• identification of performance bottlenecks in HVAC, lighting and hot water systems
• more informed maintenance planning
• reduced operational costs and carbon footprint
For designers, it closes the gap between modelled performance and real-world outcomes, allowing better decisions in early design stages and improved coordination across disciplines.
