I would like to invite you to read my article in the BIM Coordinators Summit magazine. In it, I explain how to focus on clear analysis objectives, accurate facility data, geo- and weather conditions, and detailed information about the building envelope, operations, internal loads, and HVAC equipment. I also consider utility rates and economic parameters for a comprehensive analysis.
Rather than using simple payback analysis methods, the modeling uses a life-cycle economic approach. Since energy efficiency investments typically pay for themselves over the life of a building or system, it makes the most sense to consider their lifecycle impacts.
